Dear KSS Clients

Copper theft continues to be one of the most prevalent crimes affecting our community, with multiple incidents involving geyser piping and exposed plumbing being targeted.

We have also seen an increase in thefts involving building materials, electrical cable, taps, gas cylinders and other opportunistic thefts from residential and business properties.

We would once again like to remind the community of the importance of opening a case with SAPS when you become a victim of crime. Every reported case assists with investigations, helps identify crime trends in the area, contributes towards building stronger cases against offenders and assists in ensuring adequate resources are allocated where they are needed most.

SUGGESTION – Ensure that vulnerable pipework is protected, perimeter security is maintained and suspicious activity is reported immediately.

KSS Incidents 27 May 2026 – 17 June 2026
27 May 2026  21:08  Birnamwood Road (Merrivale Heights) The KSS Control Room received a message from a member of the public reporting a fire on-site. KSS Response Teams, the Fire Department and EMS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that Community Members, Security Providers and Emergency Services attended the scene. The fire had already been extinguished. No injuries were sustained. The cause of the fire was believed to be an explosion involving a gas cylinder.

27 May 2026  15:30  Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received information regarding a suspect tampering with electrical infrastructure. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers located two electrical boxes that had been tampered with and sections of cut copper cable. Following further information from a member of the public, KSS Officers located and apprehended the suspect on Main Road. SAPS were formally advised. The suspect was found in possession of stolen cable, copper and side cutters. SAPS attended and the suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

28 May 2026  09:17  Cedara Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a report of a break-in at a commercial property. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a section of palisade fencing had been removed to gain access. Due to ongoing renovations, it could not immediately be determined whether any items had been stolen. The client declined SAPS attendance.

30 May 2026  22:37  Andrew Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received information regarding a suspect attempting to steal a gas cylinder. KSS Response Teams and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers located and apprehended the suspect on-site. SAPS attended and the suspect was handed over to SAPS. A case was opened.

30 May 2026  04:08  Fraser Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a request for assistance from SAPS regarding a theft. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that approximately seven metres of steel piping had been stolen from the property. A search of the area was conducted but no suspects were located. SAPS arranged for a case to be opened.

30 May 2026  05:00  Davidson Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client requesting Armed Response following the theft of copper piping. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that approximately three metres of copper piping had been stolen. No suspects were located during patrols of the surrounding area. A case was opened.

31 May 2026  03:34  Rylands Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a suspect had gained access by jumping the front gate and had stolen copper piping before fleeing the scene. A case was opened.

31 May 2026  08:50  Riley Crescent (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received information regarding a theft at a residence. KSS Officers reported that two large cooler boxes and a toolbox had been stolen from the laundry area. A case was opened.

31 May 2026  08:27  Oakleigh Drive (Howick) The KSS Control Room received information regarding the theft of copper and plastic piping. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that suspects had gained access through an unsecured section at the rear of the property. As per the client no need for SAPS.

31 May 2026  16:26  Rosebank Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a report that cabling connected to a security camera had been dug up and stolen. KSS Officers reported that the camera remained in place but all associated cabling had been removed. As per the client no need for SAPS.

31 May 2026  22:01  Saligna Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received mains failure signals. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a DB Box outside one of the properties had been tampered with. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

1 June 2026  01:57  Karkloof Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers conducted a full inspection and located footprints indicating recent activity. No suspects were found and nothing was reported stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

2 June 2026  21:05  Protea Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a report of suspicious activity at a vacant property. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a suspect had broken a rear window but failed to gain access to the house. A mattress left outside the property was stolen. As per the client no need for SAPS.

3 June 2026  02:37  Alpine Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a suspect had stolen copper piping before fleeing the scene. A case was opened.

3 June 2026  04:52  Oleander Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a mains failure signal affecting several businesses. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that electrical cabling connected to the Eskom supply box had been disconnected. No suspects were located. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

3 June 2026  10:30  Jasmin Road (Hilton) The KSS Control Room received a request for assistance following a reported theft. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that clothing, footwear and cash had been stolen from the property. No signs of forced entry could be identified. A case was opened.

5 June 2026  10:33  Main Street (Howick) Whilst on patrol, KSS Officers noticed a suspect carrying corrugated iron sheeting. SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers recovered corrugated iron sheeting stolen from a local business. Two suspects were identified and apprehended following investigations conducted by KSS Officers. KSS handed the suspects over to SAPS. A case was opened.

6 June 2026  10:31  Geekie Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a request for Medical Assistance after concerns were raised for a resident. Emergency Services and  SAPS were notified. Medical Personnel attended the scene.

6 June 2026   23:10  Central Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a report of a suspect on-site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a tap had been stolen. The suspect gained access by climbing over the palisade fence. Footprints were located near the point of entry. A case was opened.

7 June 2026  23:35  Overdene Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that copper piping had been stolen from the geyser and exterior wall of the property. The suspect gained access by jumping over the rear fence. A case was opened.

7 June 2026  23:22  Curry's Post Road (Curry's Post) The KSS Control Room received a mains failure signal. Private On-site Security Personnel attended the scene and reported that electrical cabling at the main distribution area had been tampered with. No suspects were located. Suspect had stolen twenty meters of cabling. A case was opened.

7 June 2026  02:32  Violet Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a report of copper piping theft. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that copper piping had been removed from the geyser. The suspect gained access by jumping over the perimeter fence. A case was opened.

7 June 2026  02:47  Rosebank Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a report of copper piping theft. KSS Response Teams and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that copper piping had been stolen from both the front and rear sections of the property. The suspect gained access by climbing over the palisade fence. A case was opened.

7 June 2026  11:07  Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received information regarding a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving a staff member and a parked vehicle. KSS Response Teams, Emergency Services and SAPS were dispatched. KSS handed the situation over to SAPS. A case was opened.

8 June 2026  16:39  Oleander Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received a report of tampering at a DB Box. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that the lock securing the DB box had been cut and suspects had attempted to force entry through another section of the box. No wiring was removed or damaged. KSS conducted extra patrols were in the area.

9 June 2026  09:48  Miller Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call requesting Armed Response. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers made contact with the suspect and the complainant requested assistance in opening a trespassing case. The suspect was escorted to SAPS and the matter was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

10 June 2026  01:53  Oleander Road (Merrivale) The KSS Control Room received information that Private on-site Security Officers had observed two suspects tampering with electrical infrastructure. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that the locking mechanism securing the electrical box had been forcibly damaged. The suspects fled prior to arrival. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

10 June 2026  01:44  Overdene Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams and SAPS were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that approximately two metres of copper piping and a tap head had been stolen. The suspect gained access by climbing over the perimeter wall. Patrols were conducted in the surrounding area but the suspect was not located.

10 June 2026  04:57  Valley View Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that suspects attempted to steal copper piping but were unsuccessful. As per the client no need for SAPS.

11 June 2026  08:03  Dahlia Road (Howick West) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client reporting a suspect had entered a property during the night. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that an outside tap had been stolen and that the suspect had attempted to cut copper piping before being disturbed by the homeowner. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

13 June 2026  02:26  Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that copper piping had been stolen from the geyser area at the rear of the property. The method of entry could not be determined. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

14 June 2026  03:58  Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that suspects had returned and stolen additional copper piping from the property. Approximately one metre of copper piping was removed. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

15 June 2026  00:54  Windermere Place (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a report from a client’s neighbour regarding suspects on-site. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that copper piping had been stolen and that three suspects were observed on CCTV footage. The suspects had gained access by climbing over the palisade fence. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

15 June 2026  10:37  Harvard Street (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a panic activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a suspect had stolen two umbrellas from the entrance of the premises. Staff members pursued the suspect, who abandoned the stolen items before fleeing on foot. As per the client no need for SAPS. KSS conducted extra patrols in the area.

15 June 2026  11:54  Moonwalk Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received a call from a client reporting a break in. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that cables had been cut from electrical tools including the lawn mower. A case was opened.

16 June 2026  03:21 Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room received an alarm activation. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers reported that a remaining section of copper piping had been cut and stolen from the property. The suspect gained access by an opening in a boundary wall connecting to a neighbouring property. As per the client no need for SAPS.

17 June 2026  06:06  Main Road (Howick) The KSS Control Room was contacted by an on-site KSS Security Officer reporting water gushing from the property next door. KSS Response Teams were dispatched. KSS Officers confirmed that copper piping had been cut and stolen. KSS Officers further reported that suspects had attempted to remove an additional tap but were disturbed. The water supply was isolated. As per the client no need for SAPS.
